penicuik house

Located 9 miles south of Edinburgh, Penicuik House is a preserved masterpiece of Palladian architecture, set in one of the finest designed landscapes in the country. The estate has been home to the Clerk family since 1654 and today we are on an exciting journey to transform this special place into a rural and cultural destination for visitors from far and wide to enjoy.

The stunning designed landscape is the perfect place for a family outing or a simple escape from the city. We have miles of tracks, paths and looped routes in this unspoilt countryside for you to explore. Our mapped routes are easily tackled on foot or bike. Head off the beaten track and try one of our 5k or 10k trail circuits where you will be rewarded with unrivalled views of the Pentlands.

Penicuik House Café is open 7 days a week. We have snug indoor seating and outdoor tables with a dedicated hatch for those with dogs or who prefer to explore the amazing interior of Penicuik House. Our café serves speciality coffee, tea, home baking and lunches all prepared fresh in our kitchen. New for 2019 we will soon be selling our own Penicuik House produce online.

We host regular pop up dinners, barbecues and community events. Our in house experts, the Penicuik House Rangers also run everything from wilderness tours to children’s workshops. Come to hear their wealth of knowledge about the estate and the wildlife that lives here.
